FAQ
General Game Questions
Do I have to know a lot about the Avatar world?
Not really! But if you want the basics, go right ahead and check out the wiki page.
Is there a language barrier?
No. Part of the reason your character wakes up in the hospital is because the healers there needed time to instill the local language (this is just for the purpose of this game). Your character can try to speak their native language, but find the words slipping their grasp. They are, however, able to write in their native tongue still (though we ask for a translation).
What is the game/real time ratio?
1:1 One day in game equals one game in reality.
Can my character leave the islands?
No. The spirits that be won't allow it, regardless of how powerful your character becomes. The furthest they can get is the water wall and the air just before it.
How many islands are there?
Five main ones with a few small ones dotting the area. All are surrounded by the water wall and powerful winds. Characters can go between the islands though.
Typing quirks?
With written letters, these are possible, though we ask that they be put under a cut with the translation above.
No communicators at all?
The spirits in charge who bring in imports aren't technologically savvy. However, messenger hawks are a fairly cheap and fast way to send messages from one village to another, or even to the other islands (on average it would take 30-45 mins for a messenger hawk to fly from the far end of one island to the far end of another). There are locations within every village to hire a messenger hawk, as well as message boards to post important notices that may effect those in the village. Once your character has established themselves financially, they may even buy a hawk of their own.
Activity Check?
Simple! There's a permanent monthly AC post where you just need to post links to your activity. As it's permanent, you may post your activity once you have it all. The mods will give a reminder the last week of each month, and will check the links for characters the first week of the following month. Once the results are posted, if you are on the in danger list, you will have 48 hours to respond if you forgot, or take a strike which you can make up for the next month's AC.
- All you need to pass AC is one log, plus participation in a log of ten comments per character (not total) or second log.
- If you do not respond to each character who replied to your log at least five times, it will not count towards the AC unless you were the last one to post. If no one responded to your log, it still counts as that is no fault of your own.
I need to take a hiatus/drop. How do I go about this?
Just go here and fill out the appropriate form. You are welcome to also post to the OOC comm to keep everyone else updated.
Memory loss?
Nope! Your character arrives with all memories they normally would have. The locals will just try to confuse them as they have no idea other worlds exist beyond the human and spirit worlds.
Fourth wall?
No. There can be similarities commented upon, but that's it.
What happens upon arrival?
You're greeted by a waterbending healer in the hospital on the neutral island. You will be given a test to see if you have the ability to bend one of the four elements. Upon the result of this test (basically, what can you move?), you're released from the hospital and given a room at the boarding house for new arrivals (for up to two weeks). You may leave the central island right away if you wish, though you may want to earn some money first!
How long can they stay at the boarding house?
Two weeks! This time period is free from rent as the locals know that people are coming with pretty much nothing. After this time, you have to leave though, to free up space for the next wave of people, giving the locals time to do any necessary repairs to the building.
Are the locals friendly?
For the most part, unless you don't help around the villages and farms at all and just take without any giving. There are your average, kind people, just as there are the irate, outright hostile people. Unless disturbed, the farmers will happily keep tilling the fields and churning out fruits and vegetables for the entire island.
So the locals are all non benders?
The locals are fairly equally benders and non benders, but don't expect any of them to help teach you how to bend. They have their own work to do.
Plot Questions
What's the plot?
There is an over-arching plot. Player run plots and ideas are also very welcome.
-Another little side plot is what's going on with the moon? It's not waxed or waned in a good amount of time. Meaning, no eclipses, and no advantage/disadvantage for the fire and water benders.
-As characters occasionally vanish, it could be the result of a malicious spirit.
So the moon's... what... sick?
If that makes you happy, sure! Or the powers that be have decided to hide part of the face of the moon and see how the poor benders react. For characters who are familiar with the Avatar world, or whom ask the right questions of the right locals, they might be directed to search for a magical koi fish.
What's this about no Avatar?
That's right, there is no avatar. Period. The locals believe one will come along and tame the high winds and waves, but they are unaware there is another force at work keeping each individual on the island from accessing two elements, let alone four.
Spirits?! What?
There are spirits all over, if one knows how to look. Spirits of each element. They won't speak, nor can they be harmed or touched. They can harm or help the physical, if they're powerful enough and retain a strong enough hold over their element.
Character & Application Questions
Who can't I play?
Real people. Characters that can only be played in a sex oriented setting. Canon OCs.
Who can I play?
Canon characters, alternate universe characters (canon and non) so long as they are not native to the world (aka, from the world of Avatar: the Last Airbender). While more than one version of a character is allowed at a time, if there are already two versions of Duo Maxwell (as an example), a third or more will need mod approval.
Exception: If you want to play someone from the series, you need mod approval. If the character is a bender, they can keep one element, but no more. (If Aang were apped and received permission, fine, but he'd only get to be a bender of one element.)
How many characters can I play at once?
Three characters who are benders, plus two who are not, is the current limit without mod approval. If you cannot keep up with the characters you already have in game, work on their activity before applying for another or asking for approval.
- Also, you can only apply and play one character from a canon at a time. This is not negotiable, regardless of little, if any, screen time they have with the other.
- If you play characters that you absolutely want to interact with each other, you must have at least one additional player actively in the thread. Otherwise you're just playing alone.
I have two characters whom I want to play, but they'd be the same element. Is this possible?
Unfortunately, no. Each of your three characters must be different elements.
What's the age limit?
Characters can be any age so long as they can show they are responsible for themselves. Characters under sixteen should avoid plotting/posting in adult scenarios. Players should be at least eighteen.
So I can app AU characters. Now what?
Funny thing, only one version of a character can be in the game at a time. The spirits know when, for example, one canon version of Duo Maxwell is already there, so an AU version, no matter how different, cannot also be brought in. If two players want to play from a shared AU, that is not currently allowed.
So, no canon OC is allowed. Okay, but what about other OCs?
An original character from a world you have created is allowed per mod approval and will undergo more extensive and close look over than canon characters.
I want to bring in my character with other game memories. Can I?
No. All characters must start fresh from their respective canon/AU verse.
My character isn't human/doesn't have a humanoid body/etc. Can I still app them?
Are you willing to make them completely human? If so, yes. Otherwise, no.
Do I need to find/make a PB for my non human character?
You don't have to if you don't want to! Just describe their human form in the appearance section of your application.
My character is dead in canon. Can I still play them?
Sure! They'll just be taken from right before they died, or you can AU them so they don't die at all.
Can my character die in game?
All players involved must contact the mod team so it can be properly planned out. Consequences for the perpetrator (which can become quite severe if they're a frequent offender), and the deceased if they're brought back.
Can I canon update my character?
Certainly! Just reply to this page.
Where's my character to live?
Once you've left the neutral island, you're welcome to explore the other islands and either live off the land, or get a job and rent a room. Or build a new home with whatever you find available. You could try to set up camp in one of the temples, but it's doubtful the spirits will like it. And they'll make their displeasure obvious.
Note: Your character cannot work for the cabbage guy. This is because of his extreme distrust of strangers and paranoia.
Bending, Weapons & Abilities Questions
What elements are there and what are their basic characteristics?
Take a look over here for a brief description of each of the four elements and what can be done with them.
Note: No one will be allowed to learn 'Energybending'.
Tell me more on these bending abilities!
Depending on the teacher your character finds, they can advance fairly quickly (in terms of being able to block and learn forms in a month or two). This is not an instantaneous or easy process. It takes time, dedication and patience.
- Depending on how long your character keeps learning and experimenting, they can possibly uncover other aspects based on their element. For example, Toph in A;tla discovered how to metalbend quite by accident, then refined it. This does, however, require mod approval.
Can my character have more than one?
No.
How does my character find out if they can bend, and which element?
Upon their arrival, when they wake up, they'll be given a test. This test is basically; which element can the character move, and can they move one at all (not everyone has to be a bender).
So my character keeps their canon special abilities, right?
Nope! Sorry. The only supernatural abilities in game are element bending, and that's if your character is fortunate.
Can my character be a non-bender?
Of course! If your character has martial arts or hand-to-hand fighting skills and you think they would be fine as a non-bender, you are perfectly able to keep them as a non-bender.
I can bring my maxy big machine with me, right?
Ah ha, no. Sorry. The technology here is pretty medieval. So... think closer to the lines of outhouses for bathrooms (though they're working on indoor plumbing). No cell phones. No vehicles. Just ostrich-horse drawn carriages and carts. Any technology that arrives with the character is taken away prior to the character regaining consciousness, and disposed of as far as all non-locals are concerned. This includes weapons. All weapons are removed upon arrival.
Weapons and other items removed upon arrival may eventually be regained if they can fit into the existing game technology, assuming they've been declared on the application.
I have a question and it's not answered here; what do I do?
Easy! Ask it here!

Unrelatedly, what items can be brought with a character if they wouldn't otherwise be eliminated by the tech constraints? Roy here, for example, has a magical, if not obviously so, greatsword -- would it be removed, depowered, or left as is?
On that note, am I correct in interpreting that the canon Fire Nation technology like their vehicles doesn't exist in this setting?
no subject
Two of the three mods are unfamiliar with RPG canons. So that will require further discussion. (I wanted to get this answered before then though)
Regarding tech constraints for imports: All weapons will be removed upon arrival so everyone starts off equally.
Regarding the canon tech: as there is no war, while the Fire Nation technology is there, there wouldn't be war ships, tanks, drills, etc gear specifically for offense.

Like what would be considered a "Canon Character"(allowed) vs "Canon OC"(not allowed) vs "AU Canon and Non Canon"(allowed)?
no subject
Canon character = Heero Yuy. Canon OC = Heero Yuy's long lost brother. AU Canon = Heero Yuy didn't become a super soldier and became a mechanic instead.
I hope this helped!

This character, for instance, is from a group of humans genetically engineered to be 7-8 feet tall (a 6 foot tall woman was described as unusually short). I've also played from canons where humans born in space end up at 6-7 feet tall 'naturally'. Like I get that double or half 'normal' human height would be probably not okay, and 'tend to be shorter/taller than average, but not unusually so' would be, but it's kind of in the gray area of 'definitely distinctive but not impossible for a human*'.
I also play a blue-haired character whose hair is explicitly noted as being a sure sign she was genetically engineered. But if I were to switch, say, to Sailor Moon or Utena or another very stylized anime series, I could find a character that is/passes as mundane with bright blue hair.
* 7-8 feet is around where World Records are set.

Skin and hair color that don't meet the Avatar world norm (ie shades of tan/paleness for skin, and blue hair to take your example) would have the locals in a state where they'll be trying to find a way to cure the character as clearly something is wrong with them. But the odd shades are allowed.
Also with hair color, blond and red hair would be remarked upon as they don't appear to exist in the Avatar world.
