Plot
Ongoing, slowly emerging plot:
Characters aren't brought to the actual Avatar world, but an entirely different world. They'll appear in a hospital on one of the four islands surrounded by air and wind currents so strong that not even if everyone worked together would they escape to find whatever world they've been brought to.
Avatar characters may find many similarities to their home nations, however. Just not the people or exact places of any of the continents they'll know of. There are high mountains where people of the air tend to reside to be closest to their element. Being a group of islands, there is plenty of water all around, both around and within.
They might even be led to believe this is their world. But is it? That's one of the things characters are meant to uncover.
But at random points, characters go missing. Sure, they return within a few days, but not quite the same. What happened while they were gone? They don't remember, and the locals aren't talking. They just smile and say they were probably sent on a vacation to Lake Nanashi. Nothing to worry about, right?
There is something going on with the moon that won't be revealed for some time, though characters are welcome to speculate and try to 'heal' it. There are other powers at work who will remain hidden for the time being, along with the occasional curious and wandering spirit.
There are spirits all over, if one knows how to look. Spirits of each element. They won't speak, nor can they be harmed or touched. They can harm the physical, if they're powerful enough and retain a strong enough hold over their element.
