Dai Li Island
Five miles long, one mile wide. This is the easiest island to navigate. It's mostly flat and should take only a couple hours to go from end to end, and maybe half an hour to go between narrowest points. Imports are brought to the Dai Li Island when they arrive and cared for in the hospital which is largely run by water benders. There is free lodging for up to two weeks in the old school boarding house. There are other places one may rent or (eventually) buy to live on this island, like all the others.

The island has bridges to the Air and Earth Islands, and boats available for those heading to the Water or Fire Islands.

The Dai Li Island hosts a mixed variety of industries using all four elements as well as specializing in skilled crafting without the use of bending.

Air Mountain Island
Five miles from tip to tip, and two at the narrowest point. A good half day to get from one end to the other on foot thanks to the mountains that dot the island. High mountains dot the second to smallest island. They aren't impossible to climb, though it is a challenge for those who can't airbend.

Several groups of nomads travel around this island, taking up camp where they can and finding work where available. They enjoy this lifestyle and resist all attempts at convincing them to settle down. And while they will help imports at times, they are not likely to allow one to join their group long-term.

The Air Island is particularly known for their delivery systems and raising of messenger hawks, their animal sanctuaries, and spiritual centers. On occasion, they join up with fire benders for glass blowing and the running of hot air balloons.

Earth Island
Twenty three miles long, fifteen wide. A day and a half's travel time should be allowed to go from end to end if going on foot. The Earth Island is made up of plains and low mountains, many of the villages sculpted from the stones of the ground itself. They have a mix of farming villages (mostly the north half of the island) of great circular cities, though the walls of these cities are always open to allow their thriving vegetable trade.

There is a bridge from the Earth Island to the Dai Li island, and a Water Island run ferry across to the Water Island.

Much of the produce in the five islands comes from the Earth Island farming villages, whose fertile ground produces much more than they can eat themselves. They also specialize in pottery, architecture, and shipping of goods, often too large for the airbenders to handle alone.
Fire Island
Twenty miles wide, fifteen miles long. As the most volatile island, two days' travel should be allowed to go from one end to the other (over the mountains) on foot. A few active volcanoes dot the expanse of this island, moving from east to west, and showing how the area was formed along with dividing the island almost in half. The volcanoes along the outer edge of the island have lava that tends to ooze straight into the water. On the southern side of the mountain range, is a large desert made of sand dunes that reaches to the ocean.

Many villages are built in the crooks between mountains, or downhill from a central base on top of them. While not back to the level of technology they had before the Wall went up, Fire Island is the source of most of the technological advances on the islands, often then exported around to be used all over.
Water Island
Twenty miles wide, five long. A day and a half on foot is the expected travel time between the longest points, with half a day to go between the narrowest points. It's an island large enough to have a good sized fresh water lake in the middle, filled with fish and various streams and rivers leading and ending in it. The locals lovingly call it Lake Nanashi, though are unlikely to explain where the name came from or what it means. On the northern-most point it gets cold enough for ice and snow, a haven that draws many water benders. For safety reasons, fire bending is not allowed in the ice villages in that area.

The Water Island specializes in healing, fishing, transportation between the islands, as well as helping in irrigation.

General Information:
-The water/air wall spans sixty miles at the widest and forty at the narrowest. It has yet to show signs of shrinking or expanding past those points. Benders of all four elements have tried to get through or go under, but none have been able to at this time.

-There are several villages on each island, giving plenty of space for imports and locals to live and work.

-While there are no scrolls left in any of the temples to each element that dot each island, there are plenty of ruins to explore.

-Imports arrive at the hospital on the neutral island surrounded by waterbenders and others who have decided to live on that island. The other elements' islands have smaller hospitals for less serious injuries.
